About this website
The website operates as an online portfolio. The main focus is the presentation and dissemination of my photographic work. I would like to underline here that these webpages only display a selection of my photographic work. I occasionally publish new images, but only if they are suitable for an online format.

Next to this portfolio, I also made a section with other projects and installations, including a selection of projects I’ve initiated and organised in collaboration with students from the ArtScience Interfaculty department in The Hague(NL).

nb. If you are interested in purchasing a work or would like to visit my studio, please feel free to contact me through michielpijpe[at]dds[dot]nl.

Presentation
I always had doubts whether I should make my work available online. I enjoyed building this website, but online publishing has many disadvantages. First and foremost when it comes to the experience of art - especially when introduced to the work of an artist for the first time.
How do you control the experience of a work? maintain quality over the physical dimensions of seeing? are there any specific requirements for viewing? and how do you communicate this?
Next to these issues, there are of course, questions of authenticity: how to claim ownership over the images and protect them from spreading? These and other questions must be considered when building an online portfolio. Hence my decision to only show a selection of images.
At the same time, I feel I can impose some kind of control by creating a medium-specific experience. An experience that closely resembles the original, physical experience of the work, but, being a screen based presentation, comes through in a slightly different way, showing other qualities.
