Biography


I graduated in 2005 from the Interfaculty Image & Sound, currently known as the ArtScience Interfaculty: an experimental field of study from the Royal Academy and Royal Conservatory in The Hague. I earned a minor in narrative techniques and style-procedures in film and literature, from the faculty of Film and Literary studies (ba) at Leiden University in 2004.

Film and Photography
I create and control physical conditions necessary for unique forms to appear. A procedure that is driven by a fascination for the emergence of all kinds of structures, shapes and colours which usually appear in rather extreme circumstances not easily accessible or ready at hand. It’s an obsession that continuously expands and evolves and is built on countless series of experiments; investigations into the behaviour of fluids, camera operation and various visual effects techniques, for both photographic- and the moving image.
The foundation for this work was laid during my studies at the Interfaculty Image and Sound. somewhere in 2002, under the supervision of Dick Raaijmakers, Joost Rekveld, Robin Deirkauf and Kasper van der Horst, amongst others.

Live 
Next to the production of photographic work, I realised several performances and theatrical installations. Sometimes in collaboration with choreographers, performers or musicians. My work in this field is informed by an interdisciplinary approach towards the stage, where scenography, technology, movement and light merge.  
The performances and installations were presented in a variety of venues in the Netherlands, including WORM in Rotterdam, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Paradiso, Het Veem Theater and Frascati in Amsterdam, Baltan Laboratories in Eindhoven, De NWE Vorst in Tilburg and Theater aan het Spui/ZAAL3 in Den Haag.
International venues include the The Greenroom in Manchester (UK), the Salone di Mobile, Milan (IT) and CTM in Berlin (DE). More information on these works can be found on the projects pages.

Teaching   
Education has always been an important aspect of my practice and I have been active as teacher and mentor since 2006. I have worked in special education and I have contributed to the ArtScience interfaculty program since 2008.
I am a member of the interfaculty staff since 2010. For this this program, I organized several site-specific projects, various courses and initiated STAGELab. An open platform for experiments in performance art and theatrical installations that was running from 2011 to 2016.
The ArtScience Interfaculty considers art and science as a continuum and promotes the development of new art forms and artistic languages. ArtScience has an inter-disciplinary focus that intersects the existing fields of music, visual and performative arts, media art, humanities and the natural sciences.
