MindBody[]LightSound Performance cycle (2006 - 2013)
In the performance cycle MindBody[]LightSound I excercised my ideas for theatre and performance,
exploring the connection between light, body and movement in different spatial set-ups. Using electromechanical devices, the purpose of these experiments is to seek out the borders of the observable, ‘abusing’ the physical limitations of the human retina or visual system. In total darkness the spectator has difficulty distinguishing between shape and volume (the body) and experiences involuntary shifts in focus (space and depth). By consciously working with these limitations, interactions between the appearance of the body and human perception occur.
Next step in this cycle is the adaptation of these staged experiments for the film, using an electromechanical machine. The machine acts as a reflecting mise-en-scene that deconstructs the body, abstracting typical human features through patterns that run across the reflective surface. The image of the body becomes elusive and ambiguous. Very much alive though, and vibrant, but utterly unrecognizable.
