I initially developed the entire procedure -  viz. the image making procedure -  using techniques from both scientific film and (optical) microscopy. Methods that are used to reveal, biological structures, physics and chemical processes. Studying these phenomena is extremely interesting of course, but scientific observation and explanation are not necessarily the concern of someone in search of shape.
While following these techniques, closely monitoring their effects, and modifying them to best fit my set-up, I became interested in the conversation between the artistic and scientific representation (of this procedure), being wedged in the ambiguity of that conversation. Developing my crafts this way, I was able to gradually shift my focus from using a rather formal and systematic method of working, towards a more imaginary and poetic making. Evenwhile still being guided by the results coming out of technical or practical experiments. Now I look to go beyond the traditional notion of observation and recording, compose with an infinite number of configurations while still using these traditions. An approach that both contests and facilitates the exchange between the scientific and the poetic, aiming for a presentation in which the artificial and the natural become indistinguishable.
